What is the Plan?

This Group Insurance Plan is managed by Aon New Zealand Limited.

Plan Insurance covers have been tailored for and relate solely to the personal risks and experience of professionals, generally regarded in the insurance industry as a group of better risks.

The insurance market is surveyed on a regular basis to develop and refine the especially designed covers utilising the "bulk purchasing" power of the group.

Many of the cover enhancements are not generally available to the insurance buying public.

Who Can Apply?

Cover is available at competitive rates (subject to usual underwriting conditions) to all legal practitioners including their family members.

Who is the Insurer?

The Insurer is HIH Casualty & General Insurance (NZ) Ltd, a major New Zealand based Insurer.

Aon Risk Services NZ Ltd has negotiated with them the family group concept that provides real advantages in terms of quality coverage, cost savings and vital assistance in time of need.

What Discounts and Special Terms are Available?

  • Group Discounts apply.
  • Additional discounts for multiple covers, age, good claims experience, professionally installed burglary alarms and higher voluntary excesses.
  • Only one policy excess applies to claims under several policies involving the same event.
  • No excess applies to burglary claims for Home Contents if a professionally installed burglary alarm is activated.
  • Options to pay by instalments.

What’s in the Plan?

Home Insurance:

  • Full Accidental Damage Replacement Cost using present day building materials and methods or more limited cover available for tenanted properties or holiday homes.
  • Earthquake cover to Full Value included.

Contents Insurance:

  • Full Accidental Damage Replacement Value irrespective of age, except for sporting equipment and some personal items.

  • Items of jewellery etc are covered up to $5,000 without specification.

  • Alternative accommodation costs up to 12 months to a maximum of $20,000.

  • Cover for keys stolen and/or locks damaged during a burglary - $500.

  • Frozen Foods cover.

  • $1,000 cover for unauthorised use of lost or stolen cash or credit cards.

  • Professional Business Tools and Equipment at home – up to $10,500.

  • Student cover up to $5,000.

Family Motor Vehicle Insurance:

  • Full Accidental Damage cover and Third Party Liability.
  • More limited Fire, Theft and Third Party Liability cover only also available.
  • Business use extension included free.
  • Replacement value for vehicles under 12 months old. Market Value settlement for damage to other vehicles.
  • Free cover for broken or damaged windscreens and glass.
  • Free cover for trailers up to $600.
  • Return home costs up to $500.
  • No Claims Bonus and Excess Protection when not "at fault" and involved in an accident with an uninsured, identified, third party.

Pleasure Boat Insurance:

  • Accidental loss, damage or theft cover.
  • Optional racing risk cover for sailing craft.
  • Wide cruising limits.

Legal Liability Covers:

  • The Home Insurance includes Property Owners’ Liability cover and defence costs up to $5,000,000.
  • The Contents Insurance includes Personal Liability cover and defence costs up to $1,000,000.
  • The Motor Vehicle Insurance includes Third Party Liability cover up to $5,000,000 plus defence costs.
  • The Pleasure Boat Insurance includes Third Party Liability cover and defence costs up to $100,000, or more if required.

Other Legal Defence Cover

The provision of legal defence costs for family criminal prosecutions under any statute, some traffic offences, actions by local authorities or neighbours, personal contract disputes and some other actions.

  • An emergency 24-hour 0800 service is also available directly from the Insurer.
